Effects of Z-pin on moisture absorption property and damage mode under flexural load for carbon fiber composite

Abstract The effect of carbon fiber Z-pin on composite under moisture condition with and without flexural load was investigated in this work. Moisture absorption property crack propagation reinforced epoxy matrix Z-pinned were evaluated only moisture-coupled conditions. by content microscopic morphology obtained using X-ray micro-computed tomography (X-ray μCT). microstructures inside composites after conditions three-point test detected μCT optical microscope. It illustrates that the is higher due to rich-resin pocket brought implantation Z-pin. cracks are obvious attributed each pin which weak point for stress concentration formation. Failure morphologies surface different Less macro-interlayer composites, plenty microcracks initiating from pins observed.
